ABEOKUTA, OGUN STATE – The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun State, Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, has commended the traditional rulers in Yewaland for allegedly rejecting a substantial cash offer reportedly made by the governorship candidate of a faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Hon. Ladi Adebutu, during a consultative meeting with the Yewa Traditional Council in Ilaro-Yewa, on Wednesday, July 8, 2026.
According to a statement e-signed by the Media Adviser to Senator Adeola, High Chief Kayode Odunaro, and made available to the League of Yewa-Awori Media Practitioners (LOYAMP) on Thursday, July 9, 2026, the senator representing Ogun West Senatorial District described the reported action of the monarchs as a remarkable demonstration of integrity and a reaffirmation of Yewaland’s collective determination to support Ogun West’s quest to produce the next governor of Ogun State in 2027.
Senator Adeola expressed delight over the reported rejection of the alleged monetary inducement, maintaining that the people of Yewaland had already embraced his governorship aspiration as part of the broader pursuit of equity, fairness and balanced political representation in the over five-decade history of Ogun State.
“I want to salute the resoluteness, steadfastness and uprightness of our revered royal fathers as demonstrated during the encounter with Hon. Adebutu. I am delighted that the royal fathers in Ogun West remain united in their commitment to my candidacy as the preferred choice of Yewaland and, by extension, Ogun West Senatorial District”, the statement quoted the APC flag bearer as saying.
Senator Adeola further commended members of the Yewa Traditional Council for what he described as the right decision in rejecting any form of inducement.
He noted that their reported action reflected the integrity of the traditional institution, strengthened public confidence in the royal fathers and reaffirmed their commitment to the collective aspiration of the people of Ogun West.
Senator Adeola Yayi stated that the reported decision underscored the resolve of the people of Ogun West to address what he described as a longstanding political imbalance in the state’s leadership.
“For more than five decades since the creation of Ogun State, Ogun West has not produced a democratically elected governor. Our aspiration is firmly rooted in the principles of justice, fairness and inclusion.
“The reported position of the Yewa monarchs reflected the collective aspiration of our people and demonstrated that the common interest of Ogun West cannot be sacrificed on the altar of financial inducement.
“It would be inconsistent with the quest for equity and balanced power sharing for Yewaland to support another governorship candidate from Remo when the incumbent Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, is from Ogun East Senatorial District.
“The 2027 governorship election presents a historic opportunity to correct this longstanding imbalance and ensure that every part of Ogun State enjoys a genuine sense of belonging in the governance of our dear state”, he stated.
The APC governorship candidate stressed that while every aspirant has the constitutional right to pursue personal or political ambitions, the overriding interest of Ogun State should be the promotion of political stability, justice, equity and even development across all parts of the state.
He explained that his emergence as the APC consensus candidate was driven by the need to advance the cause of fairness, strengthen unity among the people and promote sustainable political harmony and development across the state’s three senatorial districts.
Senator Adeola therefore appealed to the electorate to support his governorship bid in the 2027 election, pledging to provide purposeful, inclusive and people-oriented leadership that would accelerate development across Ogun State.
He maintained that supporting Ogun West’s governorship aspiration is not only a political decision but also a moral commitment to justice, inclusiveness and the equitable rotation of power among the state’s senatorial districts.
