Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has been declared the winner of the August 15 governorship election in the state, securing 511,067 votes to defeat his closest challenger, Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The State Returning Officer for the election, Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University, Oye-Ekiti, Prof. Joshua Ogunwole, declared the results at about 7:24 a.m. on Sunday.
Adeleke, who contested the election on the platform of the Accord, won in 19 of the 30 local government areas in the state, while Oyebamiji secured victory in 11 local government areas.
The governor recorded victories in Ede North, Ede South, Ejigbo, Iwo, Egbedore, Ife North, Ife East, Ife Central, Oriade, Ifelodun, Orolu, Ayedaade, Ayedire, Odo Otin, Boluwaduro, Ilesa West, Ifedayo, Osogbo and other local government areas.
According to the figures announced by the Returning Officer, a total of 1,010,684 voters were accredited for the election, while 1,005,800 votes were cast. The total number of valid votes stood at 985,079.
Adeleke polled 511,067 votes, while the APC candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, scored 444,815 votes. The ADC candidate, Najeem Salaam, finished in third place with 17,180 votes.
Declaring the result, Prof. Ogunwole said Adeleke had satisfied the requirements of the law and was therefore duly elected.
“That Ademola Nurudeen-Jackson Adeleke, having satisfied the requirements of the law, is hereby declared the winner of the August 15 Governorship Election and returned elected,” Ogunwole declared.
The declaration followed the signing of the election results by agents representing the participating political parties.
With the declaration, Adeleke secures another term as Governor of Osun State.
