Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has ordered an immediate suspension of activities of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) across the state following the killing of a transport union figure in Ile-Ife.
The governor’s directive followed the shooting of Olalekan Oyeyemi, popularly known as Ajagungbade Emir, who was reportedly killed on Sunday during a clash between rival groups allegedly fighting for control of a motor park in Ile-Ife.
Reacting to the development, Adeleke directed the Commissioner of Police in the state to ensure the immediate arrest and prosecution of all persons found to be connected with the killing.
The governor also ordered security agencies to evacuate all warring factions from motor parks across the state and take decisive steps to restore peace and prevent further clashes.
As part of measures to address the recurring crisis associated with the control and management of motor parks, Adeleke announced plans to reintroduce the Park Management System across Osun State.
According to a statement issued by the governor’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, Adeleke is expected to issue an Executive Order that will provide the necessary legal backing for the new management arrangement.
The governor said the measures were aimed at restoring order, strengthening security and ensuring that transport activities across the state are carried out under a more regulated and peaceful system.
The latest directive comes amid concerns over repeated clashes among rival transport union groups, particularly disputes linked to the control of motor parks and garages.
Adeleke urged security agencies to act swiftly to prevent further violence while calling for a more orderly management of transport activities across the state.
