The Senator representing Ogun West Senatorial District, Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, has appealed to his supporters to desist from engaging in verbal attacks against other aspirants within the All Progressives Congress (APC) as political activities gradually gather momentum ahead of the 2027 governorship election in Ogun State.
Political conversations surrounding the 2027 race have intensified in recent weeks following the declaration of interest by several prominent figures within the ruling party. Among those who have openly indicated their ambition are Iyabo Obasanjo-Bello (Ogun Central); three-time governorship contestant and serving federal lawmaker, Gboyega Nasir Isiaka (Ogun West); former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Tunde Lemo (Ogun Central); and Isiaq Abiodun Akinlade (Ogun West).
Also in the race is veteran broadcast journalist and former aide to Governor Dapo Abiodun, Modele Sarafa-Yusuf (Ogun East), who has formally declared her intention to contest the governorship seat under the APC platform.
Although Senator Adeola, popularly known as YAYI and the crowned Aremo of Yewaland, has yet to officially declare his governorship ambition, his political presence remains visible across the 236 wards and 20 local government areas of the state, fueling speculations about his possible interest in the contest.
In a press statement personally signed on Monday evening to address growing political discussions on social media, Adeola disclosed that his attention had been drawn to recent comments and counter-comments trailing the declarations made by some respected citizens of Ogun State. He noted that while political participation is a legitimate right, the tone of certain exchanges among supporters had become worrisome.
The senator expressed concern that some of his loyalists, eager to see him join the race, had resorted to making what he described as “detestable statements” against fellow aspirants within the APC. He cautioned that such conduct could create unnecessary divisions within the party at a time when unity and strategic focus are most needed.
“For the record, I have not made any official statement regarding any aspirant’s ambition,” Adeola clarified. He further emphasized that he had not authorised any member of his staff or political associates to respond to what he termed unprovoked media attacks directed at his person and political career.
Adeola maintained that his primary focus remains the mandate entrusted to him by the people of Ogun West Senatorial District. As Chairman of the Senate Committee on Appropriations, he stated that he is fully committed to his legislative responsibilities and to contributing meaningfully to national development. He added that it is not in his character to belittle or ridicule party members for pursuing their legitimate political aspirations.
The lawmaker passionately appealed to his supporters, loyalists, and well-wishers to refrain from attacking other aspirants in his name, stressing the importance of a rancour-free atmosphere as the party prepares for its primaries and the 2027 general elections.
“We are all members of a great political family,” he stated, urging party faithful to eschew bitterness and internal bickering. While appreciating the genuine love and unwavering support shown to him, Adeola called for restraint, maturity, and responsible conduct in the days ahead.
Looking forward, the senator encouraged party members to focus on promoting the achievements recorded under the leadership of Governor Dapo Abiodun in Ogun State and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the national level, particularly under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
“Our focus should be on continuity of the ongoing reforms of our great party at both the state and national levels, not on unproductive internal bickering,” he said, emphasizing that discipline and cohesion remain essential to the APC’s continued dominance.
Adeola concluded by reaffirming his commitment to party unity, peaceful engagement, and constructive dialogue as the APC inches closer to its primaries and the 2027 general elections, underscoring that internal harmony will be critical to the party’s overall success in the forthcoming polls
