Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, has assured Nigerians that the Federal Government is implementing decisive measures to tackle the persistent gas supply challenges affecting electricity generation nationwide.
In his Eid-el-Fitr message titled “Let Our Sacrifices Strengthen National Progress,” Adelabu expressed optimism that ongoing interventions by the government are beginning to yield results, with noticeable improvements in power supply expected in the near future.
Nigeria’s power sector has recently come under pressure due to reduced gas supply to thermal power plants, raising concerns about a possible system collapse. Data from the Nigeria Independent System Operator shows that national grid generation stood at 3,940.53 megawatts as of March 5, 2026.
Despite the challenges, the minister reaffirmed the commitment of the administration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu to stabilising the sector.
“Concrete measures are being implemented to ensure more reliable and sustainable electricity for homes, businesses and industries. The reforms initiated by President Tinubu are already taking root, and Nigerians will soon begin to see their full benefits,” Adelabu said.
He also highlighted the president’s recent engagements in the United Kingdom, noting that they are expected to attract investments, strengthen bilateral relations and boost economic cooperation.
According to Adelabu, these developments signal a new direction for the country, urging citizens to support government policies to consolidate ongoing gains.
He further stated that sustained personal and national sacrifices would help translate the administration’s reform agenda into tangible improvements across key sectors of the economy.
Meanwhile, President Tinubu has directed all public office holders seeking elective positions to resign on or before March 31, 2026. Although unconfirmed, reports suggest Adelabu may step down from his role as minister as he prepares to contest the Oyo State governorship election under the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Adelabu previously contested the Oyo governorship election in 2019 under the APC and again in 2023 on the platform of the Accord Party.
