Governor Dapo Abiodun and leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun Central Senatorial District have adopted Senator Shuaib Afolabi Salisu as the party’s consensus candidate for the 2027 senatorial election.
The endorsement was announced during an APC stakeholders’ meeting held in Abeokuta on Thursday.
Salisu, who currently represents Ogun Central in the Senate, is seeking a second term in office. He also serves as Chairman of the Senate Committee on ICT and Cybersecurity.
Speaking at the meeting, Governor Abiodun described Salisu as a dependable, reliable, and consistent leader who has continued to contribute meaningfully to governance and legislative representation.
“He is consistent, dependable and reliable,” the governor stated, adding that the senator would build on his achievements and expand development efforts across the district if re-elected.
Also speaking, Senator Olamilekan Adeola urged APC members to support Salisu in the same way they had supported him, stressing the need for unity within the party ahead of 2027.
In his acceptance speech, Salisu appreciated Governor Abiodun, party leaders, and members for the confidence reposed in him, promising to justify the endorsement through effective representation and people-oriented programmes.
Born in Abeokuta on August 3, 1964, Salisu is a Fellow of the Nigeria Computer Society (FNCS) with degrees in Computer Science and Management from the University of Lagos, alongside executive training from Harvard Kennedy School.
Before joining politics, he worked with firms including Total, Mobil, and ETB, before founding Simplex Automation Systems, an ICT company. He later served as Chief of Staff to Governor Abiodun between 2019 and 2023 before winning election into the Senate.
Since becoming senator, Salisu has championed digital economy initiatives, educational support programmes, and youth-focused interventions, including the distribution of free JAMB forms to students across Ogun Central.
