The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) faction aligned with Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has insisted that its national convention, set for Sunday, March 29 in Abuja, will proceed as scheduled.
Speaking at a pre-convention press briefing in Abuja on Saturday, National Publicity Secretary of the Caretaker Working Committee, Jungudo Haruna Mohammed, dismissed reports of fresh litigation by a rival faction loyal to Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, calling them “mere social media speculation.”
“As you have heard, the convention will go ahead tomorrow. All arrangements have been concluded, and any contrary reports are only on social media. By the grace of God, the convention will be held as scheduled. It is sacrosanct,” Mohammed said.
He added that the Wike-aligned camp had not been served with any court processes and emphasized the legal backing for the gathering. “That previous gathering in Ibadan was not legally sanctioned and was halted by a competent court. Our convention, however, has full legal backing and the support of party members,” he explained.
Mohammed also addressed concerns over transparency, including the sale of forms and conduct of congresses, stressing that the party had fully complied with all regulations. Prominent PDP figures, including Bukola Saraki, Sule Lamido, lawmakers, and stakeholders, are expected to attend the convention.
“The party has taken a direction. Those who feel aggrieved are within their constitutional rights not to participate, but the convention will hold as planned,” Mohammed concluded.
