Supporters of Ademola Adeleke and loyalists of APC governorship hopeful Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji have engaged in a war of words over claims that Bola Ahmed Tinubu may be quietly supporting Adeleke’s re-election bid ahead of the 2026 governorship election.
The controversy stems from reports circulating in political circles suggesting that the President could be backing the incumbent governor. However, pro-APC groups in Osun State have strongly dismissed the claims as unfounded.
The AMBO Media Fronts, a group supporting Oyebamiji, described the reports as “false and misleading.” In a statement issued by its coordinator, Adebayo Adedeji, the group insisted that the President would not support Adeleke’s return to office.
According to the group, Oyebamiji remains a loyal member of the All Progressives Congress and has consistently demonstrated commitment to the party. It also cited his previous role at the National Inland Waterways Authority as evidence of his administrative competence and preparedness for leadership.
The pro-Oyebamiji camp further criticized the Adeleke administration, raising concerns about governance in the state. It questioned certain policies, particularly in the education sector, and alleged that some government projects have been poorly executed.
In response, the Accord Media Centre, aligned with Governor Adeleke, refuted the allegations and defended the administration’s performance. The group highlighted what it described as Adeleke’s growing popularity and acceptance among residents of the state.
The Adeleke camp also directed criticism at former governor Adegboyega Oyetola and Oyebamiji, accusing them of actions capable of embarrassing the President and deepening divisions within the APC.
It further described the conduct of some APC leaders in Osun as “divisive and cantankerous,” alleging that internal conflicts and the imposition of candidates have left many party members dissatisfied.
The statement added that several supporters of President Tinubu in the state are moving beyond party disputes to align with what it termed “the will of the people.” It also claimed that Adeleke enjoys widespread grassroots support among workers, artisans, students, and farmers.
According to the Accord Media Centre, current political indicators show that the governor remains a strong contender in the August 15, 2026 governorship election.
The group, however, urged Oyetola and Oyebamiji to avoid actions that could portray the President negatively, warning that such conduct may further heighten political tensions in the state.
