A political support group in Ekiti State, BAO Grassroots Support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has described the President’s recent state visit to the United Kingdom as a clear indication of Nigeria’s increasing relevance on the global stage.
The group stated that the visit reflects growing international recognition for Nigeria and expressed optimism that it would yield significant economic and diplomatic benefits for the country.
In a statement issued on Tuesday by its State Coordinator, Prince Tunji Ogunlola, and Director of Publicity, Odunayo Ogunmola, the group noted that the timing of the visit underscores the United Kingdom’s high regard for Nigeria and its leadership. According to them, the engagement signals the UK’s interest in strengthening ties with Nigeria as a key partner in Africa’s political and economic landscape.
They emphasized that the visit provides an opportunity for Nigeria to promote its vast investment potential and attract British investors for mutually beneficial partnerships.
Describing the trip as historic—the first state visit by a Nigerian leader to the UK in 37 years—the group expressed confidence that the agreements and Memoranda of Understanding expected to be signed would positively impact sectors such as trade, investment, defence, and cultural exchange.
The group specifically highlighted the £746 million financing deal involving UK Export Finance, the Nigerian Ports Authority, and the Federal Ministry of Finance. The agreement is aimed at rehabilitating major maritime infrastructure, including the Lagos Port Complex (Apapa Quays) and Tin Can Island Port Complex, a development they said would significantly boost the nation’s economy.
They added that the United Kingdom’s growing business interest in Nigeria reflects global confidence in the current administration’s economic reforms.
The group also commended Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji for approving seven new road projects in Ado Ekiti, noting that the development would complement ongoing infrastructure efforts, including the Ijigbo-Okeyinmi flyover.
According to the group, the road projects—valued at N6.2 billion—will improve transportation, ease movement, enhance commerce, and beautify the state capital.
They concluded that Governor Oyebanji has demonstrated strong commitment to development, remaining focused on governance despite the political climate ahead of his re-election bid.
